Gnomoku is a GTK+/GNOME version of the game of gomoku, which in its Japanese form is played with Go men on a Go board (18x18 squares) by two players who alternate in placing one of their markers on the board. The player who first succeeds in forming a consecutive row of five of his markers in a straight line in any direction, is the winner.
In Gnomoku it is possible to change the size of the board (from minimum 3x3 to maximum 20x20 squares), as well as the number of markers in a consecutive row needed to win (from minimum 3 to a maximum length equal to the length of an edge of the board). In case of a 3x3 board, the game reduces to tic-tac-toe. Gnomoku also sports a fairly strong AI-player.
